Unexpectedly, a strong rebound in California’s real estate market aided to lift a key home price index for the eight month in a row.

That is precisely a good news for those who are planning to sell their homes this spring. The prices are now up for almost 4 percent from the bottom in May 2009; however, it is still almost 30 percent below the May 2006 peak.

Home Prices In Massachusetts Down By 18%

The average price of homes in Massachusetts went down by 18.3% last February from $300,000 in February 2008 to $245,000 this year. This is the sixth straight month that the average home prices went down by double-digit percentage and also the sixth straight month that the average home prices went below $300,000. This was the findings made by Boston firm Warren Group.

A total of 1,825 single family homes were sold in the area last month which was a 14.6% reduction from the 2,138 single family houses sold in the same period last year. It was also noted that there is an increase in the number of bank-owned single family homes…

The real estate industry should brace itself for another year of turmoil as home prices are expected to continue to decline in 2009.  While major lenders have refused to give their views and predictions as to how low the house prices will fall this year, there are bits and pieces of information that have slipped in the process revealing a grim prospect for the industry.
