The Gordon Kaufmann-designed LA Palladium is among this year’s winner of the La Conservancy Award. The Award, which is annually presented during the National Preservation Month of May, recognizes establishments and other projects related to historic preservation. The winners are determined by an independent jury consisting of historic preservation, architecture and community experts.

Hollywood Palladium sits on a site used to be occupied by Streamline Modernbe nightclub which is a precursor to Paramount Studios. This may be an entertainment icon for decades but has been vulnerable to demolition. Thanks to a new owner, the building was revitalized and modernized while retaining its original appearance. Today, the Hollywood Palladium is a model for other large scale developments in and out of the area.

Winners of the Preservation Awards are varied from those that follow sensitive restoration and rehabilitation to adaptive reuse projects that illustrate the value of historic preservation. Projects that have been completed by December 31 of the previous year are eligible for the Awards provided it is located in Los Angeles County.
