United States President-elect Barack Obama and his family stayed at a five-bedroom rental home in Kailua, Honolulu, Hawaii during the holidays. The home, which is owned by Kevin Comcowich, sits on a 42,403 square-foot property which Comcowich bought for $9 Million last January.

The house alone measures between 4,846 and 5,200 square feet and is made of wood.  The property includes a lava rock pool, eight waterfalls and a hot tub. The house, which has a gourmet kitchen, wireless Internet and five and a half bathrooms, has been rented in the past for a minimum of $2,500 per day. There are reports that the house was built either in 1934 or in 1946 depending on which account you would want to believe, and was renovated in 2005 by second owner Paul Sullivan.

The property’s location, which has an ocean and mountain views plus a white-sand beach, is considered one of the world’s best. More importantly, Obama grew up in this part of the world which he last visited late October during a quick visit to his grandmother Madelyn Dunham prior to her death. The Obama’s are expected to stay in the rented vacation house for 12 days as a respite prior to his inauguration on January 20, 2009.
