Homeowners can now apply for grants to cover their expenses for energy efficient needs under the Bungalow energy$avers Program. A total of $2,000 can be saved by homeowners per year on their bills for lighting, heating and cooling with basic energy conversation steps as proven by the success of the three Green Bungalow Blocks. Homeowners who wish to apply for the grant should certify their bungalows with the Historic Chicago Bungalow Association to qualify. The certification application should be supported by front and rear photos of your bungalows.
A weatherization contractor from the HCBA will conduct a free energy assessment of your home and this will determine which weatherization improvements are cost effective for your home. The energy efficient improvement grant, which can amount up to $6,000, will be available at a one-time basis only.
It is important to consult with the HCBA when planning your exterior rehabilitation to make sure it follows the design guidelines. The HCBA should approve the design of the entire project even before you start working on it to be eligible for the grant.
