Three fraudsters found guilty in an $18 million real estate securities fraud. Mark Alan Shapiro, 60, Glastonbury, Connecticut, Irving Stitsky, 55, Bayside, New York, and William B. Foster, 69, Easthampton, Massachusetts were the accused sentenced after the three-week jury trial before the United States District Judge Kimba M. Wood.

The offenders were found guilty of securities fraud, wire fraud, mail fraud and conspiracy charges after they stole more than $18 million from over 150 investors by promising that the collected funds will be used for the acquirement and improvement of the multifamily real estate properties across the United States.

Six fraudsters pled guilty to mortgage fraud-related offenses for their role as sellers in a huge mortgage fraud scheme in Slavic Village, Ohio. Portland, Oregon – Lee Howlett, 46, was sentenced to 41 months I prison and an additional three years of supervised release. Howlett pled guilty in February 2009 to a single account of conspiring to make untruthful statements to the financial institutions.

The Taylor Made Mortgage company in Portland, Oregon was previously operated by Howlett. According to information produced by the government at sentencing, over a two-and-a-half year period, from 2003 to 2005, Howlett submitted 14 forged loan applications in connection with the purchase or refinancing of seven properties. Phoenix, Arizona – Brandon Azadegan, 29, was sentenced to 18 months in prison for an April 2009 conviction for being an investor selling four homes to a straw buyer. Azadegan pleaded guilty to one count of Consipiracy to Commit Wire Fraud and one count of Transactional Money Laundering.

Port Washington, New York – A Manhattan real estate developer, Ivy Woolf-Turk was sentenced for five years in prison for her involvement in a $27 million Ponzi scheme involving obtaining fraudulent loans secured by nonexistent mortgages.

Woolf-Turk pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud. The United States District Judge Naomi Reice Buchwald sentenced her. Judge Buchwald also ordered a forfeiture of $27,184,750 that represents the funds obtained through the fraud.
