Miami – Hotels are starting to get drown in debt, just like the home owners. Hotels have been attracting travelers all year round with their great deals such as credits for in-house spas and restaurants, up to 50 percent off five-star rooms, even free nights.

Port Washington, New York – A Manhattan real estate developer, Ivy Woolf-Turk was sentenced for five years in prison for her involvement in a $27 million Ponzi scheme involving obtaining fraudulent loans secured by nonexistent mortgages.

Woolf-Turk pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud. The United States District Judge Naomi Reice Buchwald sentenced her. Judge Buchwald also ordered a forfeiture of $27,184,750 that represents the funds obtained through the fraud.

October home sales went up 10.1 percent, beating the expectations, as tax credit prompted sales.

For second month in a row in October, home sales ascended to the highest level in two and a half years as first time buyers hurried to take advantage of an expiring tax credit.

According to the data showed on Monday, home sales are now up to nearly 36 percent far from their bottom in January, although the sales are still 16 percent below the peak in autumn of 2005. There is only a 7-month supply of homes on the market and in some areas where there are bidding wars.

Approximately 41,280 new and resale houses as well as condos were sold statewide in October of this year. It has increased with 2.6 percent from September 2009’s 40,216. In comparison to October 2008 record it has decreased with 2.4 percent of 42,293 sales.
